Well, here's your chance!
In January 2014, Sun King Disc Sports will again host a tournament on the property formerly known as the Gran Canyon! This is a unique opportunity to play Disc Golf on this legendary tract of land in Brooksville FL. In fact, if you haven't seen the property before, here are some videos on YouTube from the Ultimate Disc Golf Show showcasing the final event held at the property in 2006 and other video filmed during last year's tournament.
The last tournament using the "original" Gran Canyon design was run in 2006. The property was sold in late 2008 and the final rounds were played on 11/24, the Monday after the Players Cup. The baskets came out immediately afterwards and speculation and rumors swirled about it's future over the next 4 years. Since then the property was cleaned up to prepare it for residential development but when the housing market bubble burst shortly afterward, the nearly 60-acre plot went undeveloped.
It took Sun King Disc Sports nearly 4 years to get the owner of the property to allow the two rebirth events that revived the property in 2013 and an opportunity again in 2014, so we are very grateful and humble to get this chance again. As discovered last year, the property has changed dramatically with some areas overgrown, some areas cleared and open and other areas either holding water or have sustained water and wind erosion over the past few years. This is why we have again chosen to use a modified 18-hole layout that features as much of the old course as possible, but also uses some areas that haven't been used since some of the early tournaments or not at all.
Course Cleanup/Volunteer Days
Sun King is organizing two seperate work day events to help prepare the famous old Gran Canyon property for the upcoming Throw Down The Mountain tournaments in January 2014. What makes these work days unique is that they will allow the volunteers a sneak peak preview of the new course layout and although the baskets won't be set up, they will be able to play it or at least throw shots off the ridges and cliff walls when the work is done! Sun King will provide lunch for all volunteers and in addition, each volunteer will receive special t-shirt and be eligible to win a portable Disc Golf basket!

Vibram Open Qualifier
Just announced! Sun King is stoked to announce that Throw Down The Mountain is the first Vibram Open Qualifier for 2014! As with previous years VOQ's, players in qualified Pro divisions can pay a $10 "opt in" fee to be qualified to compete for the (2) spots that will be awarded to the non-qualified players with the two best scores. Players can opt in during registration or any time up to the beginning of their round 1 tee time.
Players in these divisions will all play from the same set of teepads and are eligible (if paid) for the VO spots.
Waiting List & Refunds
Any player wishing to get on the waiting list after the event is filled must register online to do so. Calls to the Sun King shop will be redirected to the website. There is a $5.00 non refundable fee to get on the waiting list. If any players drop from the event, the next player in line on the waiting list will be contacted and have 48 hours to register for the event. This time is subject to be reduced as the event nears. Refunds are elgible to any player that withdraws and directly contacts the TD, Mike Barnett, or calls the Sun King shop before the Doubles tee time on the tournament weekend. Refunds will be given as a net amount (credit card processing fees will not be refunded). Players who do not show up for the tournament will lose their entire registration fee but will be eligible for any players package items they were to receive.

Teams will be seperated into A Pool or B Pool based on their PDGA player rating. Teams with one or both players with a 971+ will be considered A Pool and teams with both players 970 and below will be considered B Pool. Teams may tee off any time between 8:30am and 2pm and will require a minimum of 1 other team to partner up with and may be forced to have 3 teams per card depending on volume of teams waiting to play. Doubles entry is $20 per player and includes the $10 greens fee.

CFR Cash Raffle Drawing
Presented by Innova, the CFR Cash Raffle Drawing will award cash prizes to a few lucky winners. For each Innova CFR disc sold, $5 will be added to the raffle amount. With (100) discs available, there could be up to $500 to giveaway! The raffle will guarantee a minimum of $100 in prize money and the drawing will take place on Sunday 1/19 after the rounds are over. Discs can be purchased during online registration or at the event if quantities remain.
Craft Beer Fundraiser
Throw Down The Mountain II organizers will once again be producing some special craft beers to commemorate this awesome property and upcoming tournaments. Event brewmaster Joey Van Duzee, in conjunction with Mike Barnett, collectively known as Shark Tooth Brewing Company are small batch brewing (48) 22 oz. bottles each of Top o' the Mast IPA and The BeaST, a Belgian Style Trippel that comes in at a tasty, yet deceiving 9.0%. ABV. These special brews will be made available for any craft beer lovers out there for a small donation to the tournament. Last year, these special brews were sold out by Sunday morning of the first event weekend!

Arriving at the Property
As one would expect, these events are going to be extremely popular and will more than likely going to sell out. Please be advised that the Friday and Saturday of the event weekends will prove to be extremely busy. To make your check-in goes as smooth as possible please make sure you leave yourself an extra 15-30 minutes to get through the line during peak times and get parked and ready to play. Remember, each vehicle will need to get their parking pass issued and players/campers will need to sign the waiver and receive their wristbands.

Note: All Players/Spectators are considered "tresspassing" if they have not signed the waiver or have a wristband on. Players/Spectators only need to sign the waiver once per event weekend and must keep their wristbands on during the duration of the event weekend. Replacement wristbands are $1.00.
Parking space is extremely limited and we highly encourage players and spectators alike to carpool as much as possible. At this time, there will be no parking allowed along Mondon Hill Rd or Cooper Terrace due to limits in our county issued permit.

Anyone on the tournament property must sign a waiver releasing all tournament partners of liabilty of your actions while on the property. Once the waiver is signed, attendees will receive a wrist band that must be wore at all times while on the property. Tournament players will have the opportunity to sign the waiver during the online registration process.
Alcohol is permitted on the property by those 21 and older with a valid ID. Cans/plastic bottles or containers only - no glass bottles will be allowed on the property with both vehicles and attendees subject to a cooler search at any point. Bottles may be confiscated until the owner departs the property. Any repeat offenders will be banned from the property for the duration of the event.
Recycling & Refuse
There will be several recycling & refuse stations conveniently located throughout the parking and camping areas allowing attendees the opportunity to properly dispose of aluminum cans, plastic bottles and containers and paper/cardboard products. In addition, anything that doesn't fit into those categories can be placed into refuse bins. We encourage folks coming out to this property to adopt the "pack it in, pack it out" mentality and be prepared to carry out anything that you bring on to the property so that we have a better chance of running events on this magnificent property in the future.
